Jet

Rock City, Nottingham on Tue 10th Feb 2004

Whilst the majority of citizens in Nottingham had flocked to The Nottingham Ice Arena to see Blink 182, the remaining few decided to go to Rock City to a band called Jet.

So as I reluctantly trundled along sulking because I didn’t manage to obtain tickets for Blink 182, I wasn’t really expecting this band called Jet to be any good, I mean lets face it, who on earth could even come close to outshining Blink 182.

To my surprise, Rock City was sold out - so Jet must be popular or just extremely overhyped, judging by the average age of the audience, I'd assume it is due to hype rather than musical ability.

As the lights went out, the audience started to erupt into a huge volcanic round of applause. A group of men who looked like they had just walked off the street into the wrong place arrived on stage - this was going to be a band that would be so easy to criticise.

They impressed from the very start and kept my attention for the entire set - after one song I’d forgotten all about Blink 182 and was entranced with Jet - the newest, coolest, rock band in the world.

From the opening track ‘cold hard bitch’ all the way through to their final song ‘Take It or Leave It’ these guys played with such passion, fury, angst and energy that within seconds the audience were dripping in sweat. This was just great rock music at its best - long live Jet.
