The two acts tonight are quite a mismatch, Tinie Tempah in his own right did an arena tour not so long back and could pack the arena out all by himself. He's providing support tonight as Labrinth pulled out of the tour due to other commitments.
Obviously The Script are a successful mainstream pop act and 'everyone' loves the cheeky chappy whom fronts the band and was one of the stars of The Voice, 'Danny O'Donoghue'. After releasing Four successful albums and selling 20 million records worldwide, including 1 million in the US, with numerous awards to their name, including a couple of BRIT's and a World Music Award, it's no wonder everyone wants a piece of them.
A twelve date UK tour was announced quite a while ago, tonight is the third date on the tour, a celebration of The Script's newish album 'No Sound Without Silence'.
Tinie Tempah's set was short and sweet, a 30 min stonking extravaganza, he whipped the crowd up in to a frenzy and they were well up for The Script. It was party time at the Genting tonight courtesy of hits such as 'Pass Out', 'Miami 2 Ibiza' and 'Drinking From The Bottle' as well as showcasing some new tunes. The highlight for me was 'Tsunami', it was electric, all I wanted to do was jump up and down and party on.
One of the reasons I wanted to do this tour was to see Tinie, I saw him at Wireless Festival last year and I didn't realise how good he was live and tonight was no exception. Dressed from head to toe in a comfy Nike sweat pant suit, you know jogging bottoms that you slouch around the house in, he looked well chilled. He had one of his buddies there playing the decks and being his jump around Zebedee.
A no frills set which definitely did get the party started, I am definitely a big fan of this guy.
The Script's show kicked off with a little procession through the arena with accompaniment from their first song 'Paint The Town Green', green flags to signify the Irish connection, with Danny greeting the fans on the way through, this was definitely a nice touch and made quite a few girls/ladies days.
The stage seemed huge, I know one thing it was high, it's a wonder I didn't unhinge my neck from my shoulders. I could've done with a pair of step ladders to get a better view. (The view from the pit at the front of the stage). It was all decorated with graphics from the album, the good thing was there was a video screen, a rotunda one slap back in the middle of the Genting ceiling, similar to what they have in the US at the basketball games. Obviously there were big screens at the back of the stage set. We were treated to a magical extravaganza, Danny had the audience eating out of his hands, scream after scream when he came near the edge of the stage.
It's easy to see why The Script are so popular with their middle of the road tunes, there's something on the albums for everybody. We went right back to the beginning with 'Breakeven' it was goosepimply, Danny's voice was immense. Then we were brought right up to date with current offerings from their most recent album 'No Sound Without Silence'.
'Hail Rain or Sunshine', current hit the amazing 'Superheroes' and 'Man On A Wire', we were told the story about how one of the members is scared of heights and this song was written about that.
'Before the Worst' was an absolute gem in the set, very touching.
The set was full of its ups and downs, we were treated to 20 songs and a 90 minute rollercoaster ride of The Scripts epic journey.
It was a pleasant evening and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Danny is an epic front man and the band are so good at what they do now and it feels like they've been around for a decade.
The tour continues on its journey around the UK, do yourself a favour and go and see it.
