Kasabian / The Maccabees

Brighton Centre, Brighton on Wed 26th Nov 2014

The Brighton Centre is one of my favourite venues, mainly because of the intimacy it offers. When you actually enter the arena it's like a glorified school hall. I love the fact you can be so close to your idols in such an amazing town and even the artists seem to treat it with great fondness.

The Maccabees

Kasabian's support act is The Maccabees. They play a 45 minutes set debuting some of their new, long anticipated material from their new, not yet released album. This the first time they have supported an act for a very long time and you get a feeling that the forth coming album is going to be worth waiting for. The crowd enjoy every minute of the live set.

But make no mistake; the crowd are here to see the mighty Kasabian. It seems incredible that this group were headlining the Queen of festivals Glastonbury back in June and now they are gracing us with their presence in this tiny little venue. One has to wonder whether the walls of the Brighton Centre have the strength to withstand the excitement once the band hit the stage.

Kasabian

The clock on stage is ticking down until when it reaches zero we are treated to an acoustic version of 'Bumblebee'. This then climaxes to the full blown rocky standard version. The fans are in ecstasy singing back lyrics word for word and an epic moosh pit ensues. Now that Kasabian have five studio albums under their belt (and for Serge it's a fox tail adorned belt!) the body of tracks to choose from is immense. Every track is delivered and received with such gusto you can fully understand why Michael Evavis chose them to close his festival. The crowd never want it to end and the close bromance between Tom and Serge is a joy to behold, the little looks between each other indicate that they take nothing for granted. I truly believe that not since Oasis has there been such an amazing rock band both commercially and live.

Kasabian

If you ever get a chance to see this band live, beg, borrow, steal or do whatever it takes to get a ticket. Trust me; you won't regret it and an addiction to this band will be born.
