Gutted I am too, that the venue is bloody cold. There could be more people here, but after seeing the guys at the packed out Manchester Academy do pretty much the same show as they are to do here, the gig becomes more private, like a special show for die hard fans (this is the closest venue to home for the lads). Tony Wright even looks dolled up for the occasion in a grey suit (and trainers!).
The set runs through 'How To Make Friends And Influence People' from start to finish, with Tony Wright saying part way through that we "May have guessed which song is next" in his cheeky manner. Even the 'Tick, Tock' recording is included at beginning and end. Wright adds, "I bet this is the warmest this place has been all day...!" before the bouncing begins for 'Pretend Best Friend'. The fun doesn't stop there though...
As they did earlier in the year the band are playing tracks from across their other albums, with a couple of rarities so that the true hardcore fans can shine. 'Suffocation' and 'Mr Buskerman' are from their little known compilation album 'B-Sides and Rarities', released in 2005. Throw in a couple from their 'Good To Go' album, then the original 'Tequila' (not the 'Mint Royale' mix that was released and strangely became their biggest UK hit; a slowed down jazzier version, that is sung like you've had a few too many of the acquired tasting drink). 'Josephine' from the same album (which was meant to be released as a single but was replaced with 'Tequila') is up with 'Celebrity Hitlist' from 'Regular Urban Survivors'.
The (long) encore carries on with the excellent 'My House', followed by the catchy 'Perseverance', then it's an early finish at 10.30pm, just right for a Sunday night! If I could wished for anything different it maybe they could have included 'New Policy One' or another track from 'Formaldehyde', but apart from that this was just a fun, energetic show for true fans, the old Terrorvision spreading a little Christmas joy their own way.
One note to people who drive to this venue, the car park underneath used to be very reasonable and excellent for finding in Sheffield (it is the only place I know where to get to in the city; the Sheffield road layout will leave you questioning your sanity) but their prices have since become extortionate (£7.10 for 2-4 hours) so I would avoid or get the train.
