The View

As part of the build up to headlining this years King Tuts tent at T in the Park this weekend, Scotland's hottest indie band of the moment played at the Martell Club, Falkirk in Central Scotland as part of the bands aim to take the live rendition of the hit album 'Hats off to the Buskers' to a different part of the country. Such has been the pace of touring in the last year that Falkirk is one of the few large towns in Scotland they have not played.



Although the gig was only advertised on the Views fan site the demand for tickets proved to be phenomenal given the short notice of the gig. Wherever the View play there's always a bus load from their home city. Apart from that I am sure a few Falkirk folk got tickets as well.


With a 350 capacity the club was packed to what looked like the ceiling. The set exploded with 'Coming Down'. As soon as the now common avalanche of beer and plastic tumblers settled down the gig took off at a frantic pace with an early anthem guitar blast of 'Wasted Little DJ's' taking the crowd to implosion. The stretched security staff did their best, however no plastic chain was going to hold this crowd back from the side of the stage. Sure enough by the end of the third song the chain was bust sending the crowd right up to stage level.

The set continued with what seemed to be well known tracks to the crowd such as 'The Don', 'Don't tell me' and 'Skag Trendy' before Kieran Webster swaps base with Kyle falconer to blast out 'Grans for Tea'. The crowds crazy chanting and singing nearly raised the roof in the place. You can tell that a small club is completely jumping when the humidity reaches a point where condensation dripping from the ceiling mixes with sweat!


Near the end of the set, 'Same Jeans' , probably one of their best known is sung by the band, aptly accompanied by the locals and the army of travelling Dundonians. The gig climaxed with 'Superstar Tradesman', with guitar riffs burning my ears and the noise of the crowd singing keeping the tempo high.

An ugly incident happned near the end when someone in the crowd threw a bottle onto the stage narrowly missing two of the band. 'We'll no be back in Falkirk' shouted lead singer/guitarist Kyle Falconer pointing in the general direction of the bottle thrower. Just as well as there is no place big enough for them in Falkirk.

Next time they play expect them to test the capacity of the King Tut's Tent to the limit!
