Buckcherry

Rock City, Nottingham on Sat 9th Sep 2006

Buckcherry are one of those bands that are hardly ever spoken about due to their lack of exposure in the media. So when a friend invited me along to see this band, I thought that this would be one of those gigs that only a handful of people attend.

On the way down to the gig, my friend explained that Buckcherry had been around for quite some time and they have very loyal fans, who are guaranteed to attend their Rock City gig.

Sure enough upon entering the venue, there were quite a few people already waiting, and by the time the support act had finished their set the audience had turned into a sea of bodies, all wanting to see their heroes Buckcherry perform live.

Once on stage the band members were greeted with a rapturous applause, and if I’m totally honest Buckcherrys image seems to be still stuck back in the mid 80’s - stereotypical frontman (Josh Todd) endorsed in tattoos from head to toe, and cliché guitar poses to create that nostalgic feeling.

Despite the image problems, their music was great to listen to, They kicked off with a track from their new album ‘Fifteen’ entitled ‘So Far’, and the audience seemed to lap it up.

The setlist was heavily dominated by tracks from their new album, songs such as ‘Broken Glass’, and ‘Next 2 You’ were belted out as if they were already classic archive material from this band.

Frontman Josh is an animated person whilst on stage and is constantly bouncing around like a possessed billiard ball. For those of you who have never heard or seen Buckcherry live, Josh reminds me of a cross between Iggy Pop and Anthony Kiedis, and this works extremely well in keeping the attention of the audience.

Their set was quite short but still very effective in leaving all of their fans with big happy smiles on their faces.

After seeing this band live, it is easy to see why their fans always show up for a live show - it is quite simply because this band are incredible at performing live. An absolute pleasure to watch!!!
