Punk Daddy

Proving that they could count up to four, Ramones tribute band Punk Daddy turned it up to eleven and delivered a quick fire set at Stafford Rangers Social Club on Friday 17th December.

With the obligatory 1-2-3-4, they kicked off with 'Rockaway Beach', 'Blitzkrieg Bop' and 'Sheena is a Punk Rocker'. Trying to recreate the essence of the seminal New York band must be a hard feat in the not so inspiring surroundings of the Rangers Social Club but the band tried hard.

The non-stop punk rock eardrum assault continued with 'The KKK Took My Baby Away' and 'California Sun'. With punk now mainstream, this was a good reminder of a band that were there at the beginning. The Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and Marky clones rattled off 'Do You Wanna Dance', 'Here Today, Gone Tomorrow' and Ronettes' cover 'Baby I Love You' before whipping out the Santa hats for 'Merry Xmas (I Don't Wanna Fight Tonight'.



Next song, 'Sedated (I Wanna Be…)', did not reflect the mood of the exuberant audience. The dark smoky atmosphere served as a good backdrop to the raw punk rock riffs of 'Rock 'N' Roll High School' and high speed cover of 'Wonderful World'.

Leaving the stage to enthusiastic applause the band were coaxed back on and ended with the late John Peel's favourite song; 'Teenage Kicks'. With the history lesson over the band left Stafford to practice counting past four.
