Bryan Adams is one of the stalwarts of music, he’s been around since the invention of the wheel!
His first studio album was back in ’80, self-titled’ and he’s gone on to have a very successful career, spanning 37 years and producing 13 studio albums.
The guy is an absolute legend, tonight is a celebration of his latest creation ‘Get Up’, a 29 date European and UK Tour. The UK leg of the tour has taken in The Eden Project (Eden Sessions), Southampton: Ageas Bowl, The Marquee: Cork and Powderham Castle down in Exeter.
Tonight is the 11th date on the tour, I hope I don’t get jinxed, as the last twice I’ve been on my way to see Mr Adams, there’s either been bad congestion on the M6 or a serious road accident, so hopefully it might be third time lucky!
I’ve been a longtime admirer of this guy, I remember having all his tapes in my first car, those were the days, with Summer of ‘69 blaring out. Fingers crossed if I get there in one piece tonight I am looking forward to it. The gig is at the mighty Worcester Warriors ground, so it should be very interesting to say the least, a big ground too.
The gates opened at 18.00hrs. there were queues galore, they didn’t die down until around 7.20pm.
Support was provided by the wonderful The Dunwells, hailing from Leeds, with two studio albums and three EP’s under their belt. They provided a stonking 30 minute set, which led nicely into the man himself. Usually support bands are quite forgetful and you can’t wait to get on to the main act, but tonight wasn’t the case, I’m even tempted to say I would go and see these guys under their own steam if they were around the area again.
Hidden behind a curtain Adams and crew came on stage at 21.15 wearing jeans, white shirts and Blazers, all looking very smart. From his opening song ‘Do What You Gotta Do’ from ‘Get Up’, all the way through to the five song encore Adams had the audience lapping up every single morsel.
The 27 song set was full of hits anyone would be proud of including classics ‘Run to You’, ‘Summer of ‘69’, ‘Heaven’, ‘Everything I do, I do it for you’, ’18 Till I Die’, ‘Please Forgive Me’ and ‘The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me is You’. Don’t forget this guy’s been around for well over 30 years.
The set was a two hour extravaganza, a rollercoaster ride of emotions, rock classics one minute and beautiful ballads the next, there’s no end to how talented Adam’s is.
The Encore was a five song thriller, with a couple of covers thrown in for good measure including ‘All Shook Up’ by the King and ‘C’Mon Everybody’ by Eddie Cochran, topped off with Adams classics ‘Straight From The Heart’ and one of my favourite slushy songs ‘All For Love’.
Whilst the sun settled on the horizon and people were buzzing about the gig, a great evening was had by all, they all dispersed like ants to their cars for the journey home. All Happy Bunnies.
