KT Tunstall

Symphony Hall, Birmingham on Fri 4th Nov 2016

Well, what can I say, Thank god she's back!! And with a stonking new album 'KIN'. Boy I have missed KT Tunstall.

I have been lucky enough to see KT twice this year live, once at Carfest North which was epic, except for the Gold trousers!., And once, at her album launch down in the big smoke which was one of the coolest things I've ever done, especially as got to meet her in person too.

I have read a few reports over the last few months that suggest we are lucky to hear Tunstall again, as after a few heartbreaks she decided to jack her life in in the UK and up sticks to sunnier climbs and move to LA., She got fed up with the rat race and decided on change and gearing her career towards writing film scores.

After a chance drive in the sun with the radio on full blast over in LA and being contented with life again Tunstall decided to record another album as she was happy with life again. And 'KIN' was born.

The new material is KT Tunstall back to her best, this album is her best work since her first two albums., My wife has been a fan since Tunstall's early days and got a bit disheartened with the last two albums suggesting Tunstall had lost her way. BUT 'KIN' is absolutely epic I can't stop listening to it, it's been in the car for weeks.

KT Tunstall is definitely back to her best, so energetic and full of va-va-voom, she seems to be re-energised and I'm loving it.

Seeing Tunstall live tonight excites me, the last few album releases were a bit dowdy, but if you read in-between the lines you can understand why.

Tunstall came on stage just after 8.45 with her little three piece band. No fancy stuff throughout the set, just the music., the backdrop to the stage was the KIN album cover.

It was quite a strange night, everyone apart from a few stay in their seats throughout the duration of the gig, quite a mixed bunch of young and old, but anyhow the music was immense.

Once the first song kicked off proceedings, 'If Only',we were off. 'Funnyman' and 'Little Favours' were absolutely stonking, most of the set were old numbers littered with a few new ones from 'KIN' and 'Invisible Empire'.

The set went way too fast for me, I wanted to savour every moment as it's been too long since I saw Tunstall in a venue like this.

Gems of the set for me were 'Maybe it's a Good Thing', 'Other Side of the World', the epic 'Black Horse and the Cherry Tree' (Intertwined with Seven Nation Army) and 'It Took me so Long to get Here' (But Here I am).

The chat between songs was quite entertaining, Tunstall saying she couldn't believe it had been 12 years since she came on to the scene, at one point throughout the set ,Tunstall asked everyone to get their phones out and wave them, with the torches on, it created an epic scene around Symphony Hall.

All I can say is I'm glad she's back, it would've been a travesty if she's stayed away., such a talented women and she's so back to her best, Welcome back KT.
