I Am Kloot

Brudenell Social Club, Leeds on Thu 16th Apr 2015

I am Kloot are playing the first of two nights at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds the second (a Friday) being already sold out. Tonight's gig was pretty full and as the band took to the stage John Bramwell joked that this was a warm up of the Friday night gig.

Andy Hargreaves was at the drums and on bass looking dapper in a suit was Pete Jobson. This is the first tour in a while with Bramwell taking time out to do some solo projects but each looked happy to be back and playing some rarely heard tracks pick out by fans via the internet.

They start the almost two hour set with 'One Man Brawl' and continue through the tracks at a steady pace pausing for some witty banter with the crowd among the songs. The set was not perfect but any mistakes were easily forgiven as everyone played from their heart and you could tell they were back doing what they love to do.

They have a devoted fan base who were loving the set, it was the first time I had see I Am Kloot in their fifteen years together but I hope not the last. Half way though the set Hargreaves and Jobson went out the back for a woodbine while Bramwell treated the audience to a couple of solo songs. With one leg on an old beer crate so he could rest his guitar on his lap he mesmerised the crowed with his pitch perfect voice. They got through a stack of songs before finishing the night off with 'Twist' and then 'Proof ' as an encore.

The Brudenell's size is well suited for the band as they have an intimacy and warmth about them that would be last in a bigger venue or stadium that the likes of similar band such as Elbow or Doves would have played at. If this was the warm up gig for the Friday night crowd then they are in for a real treat cos this was a belter of gig.
