Fightstar / More Dangerous Animal / Take The Seven

The Forum, Kentish Town on Tue 16th Dec 2014

Tonight I find myself at The Forum, Kentish Town to see Fightstar who have come out of a 4 year hiatus and are here tonight to celebrate their 10 year anniversary. The venue is buzzing with eager fans who have waited patiently for this day to come.

First band up is a Take The Seven a 5 piece from Chesterfield. Sporting a rock pop sound, they have some great tunes and a strong stage presence, I have no doubt this band could go far!

Next up is More Dangerous Animal. Formed of ex-Brigade band members, these guys have come together to produce something heavier and more gritty to get your teeth into. These are a band to look out for, on stage they definitely give a mesmerizing performance to watch and are enough to get any crowd hyped up and raring to go, singers/guitarists Will Simpson and James Plant bounce vocals off each other whilst playing some blinding heavy riffs alongside the manic drums and brilliant bass lines and the end result is an explosive, manic musical feast to the ears. (which produced a mosh pit on the last song I might add!!) I recommend you check these guys out, I for one can't wait to hear more from them!!

As time is nearing for Fightstar to come on stage, the excitement in the building is growing. Looking around I see several youngsters in suits, who have obviously come straight from work, I wonder when these people were teens going to see Fightstar, did they ever think they would turn up one day to see this band in a suit ??? one thing's for sure, no matter how much has changed for these fans, their love for this band has stayed strong.

Fightstar take to the stage to thunderous claps and cheers and in no time burst in to song, along with everyone in the audience, I don't think I have ever heard a crowd sing along so well or so loudly as I have here, 'Paint Your Target' has the whole room involved and front man Charlie Simpson is able to kick back and let them sing out for him, and when he did sing, who could hear him above the crowd? On to tracks such as 'Build An Army' and 'Grand Unification Part 1', 'We Apologize For Nothing' and '99' Simpson shows that he is as strong now vocally as he ever has been and that his time away from Fightstar has not lessened his ability to scream his vocals out!

Slight technical issues cool the place down a bit, but not much, as shouts for "Omar, Omad" ring out, and as a result the crowd are treated to a drum solo from Omar Abidi as the technical issues are dealt with, though the band do end up leaving the stage for less than a minute due to this, apologising profusely for the problem but they need not have worried, this crowd would forgive them for anything!

And so the show went on, 'Deathcar' was wild and crazy and every bit as good as ever, How Simpson manages the screaming vocals of 'Deathcar' and yet he seems to manage it with such ease.

'Tannhäuser Gate', 'Chemical Blood', and 'I Am The Message' to name but a few are delivered with the same stunning energy and brilliance, but then along comes 'Palahniuk's Laughter' and a new height is reached as Simpson's vocals and Alex Westaway's vocals blend in with the singing crowd and the whole room is full of raw emotion and love for a song that obviously means a lot to most people here.

The sheer beauty of the tracks 'Hazy Eyes', 'Amethyst' and 'Mono' have me scratching my head yet again as to how Simpson is able to go from such screaming to such beautiful vocals with so much ease, but who am I to question such talent, a great night was had by everyone here and who could ask for more???

Thank You Fightstar!
