Pink

Roundhouse, Camden on Thu 13th Sep 2012

When I found out Pink was playing at the Roundhouse as part of iTunes Festival I was prepared to sell my granny to get a ticket.

I applied like everyone else to try and get two tickets, But what became apparent later was the world and his wife applied to get tickets.

I had already booked the day off from work three months in advance as there would never ever be an opportunity to see such a mega star like Pink at such a small venue, especially as the last two tours I've been two, one was a tour of football stadiums and theme parks and the other was the arenas, which seat 12-14,000 people.

Tickets were like gold dust, but lucky me, managed to bag a couple, well, actually had a photo pass and a ticket, only found out the day before, so was ecstatic, a chance to photograph Pink, I was salivating at the prospect.

Travelled down to London on a relaxing journey by train, tube and finally got to the venue at 1.30, the crowds were already building up, about 50 eager fans already in the queue. Fans had been queuing since the early hours of the previous day just to get to the front, one young girl whom we met cut her holiday from Amsterdam short and had turned up without a ticket, chancing it to see if she could get in. I did see her later in the venue, she must’ve thought she was Charlie with the Golden ticket!

We were told cause we were media we could just roll up at 6pm and go in, bloody brilliant. After a visit to Camden market, a little picnic and a few Costa coffees we waited in the queue with guests and media alike. We were then told that we should've received an email and that all photographers had been cut from tonight's show; alarm bells set in, we were told to wait outside until 7pm, my reviewer and I just looked at each other, both thinking "oh crap!" But we managed to get tickets and by god, I'm so glad we did.

Support on the night was provided by US based Walk on the Moon, who treated us to tracks from their self-titled album 'Walk On the Moon'. A 30 minute set ensued with an absolute gem of a Bowie Cover, 'Lets Dance', which got everyone boogying and well up for Pink. I enjoyed their set, seemed a bit Maroon Five-ish to me, shall watch out for them in case they tour the UK.

Obviously everyone had gone to see headliner Pink, this was her to be a sort of showcase for her new album, 'The Truth About Love', so everyone was chomping at the bit to hear some of the new material.

Pink always has an astounding band, I have been seeing her live for quite a few years and she tends to stay with the same musicians, so we were in for a treat tonight. Same old faces in the band.

Clad in a Black leather Jacket, very short Leather skirt, and white T-shirt emblazoned with red lips on it, (Blow me One Last Kiss), she had only walked on stage and the whole place erupted, it was amazing to be in such a small venue.

We were treated to the Pink back catalogue as well as a few new songs, during a 75 minute set which took us on an absolute joyride.

The album is not due out in the UK until next week, so the gig tonight was purely for listening and watching, no singing along to new songs, only back catalogue material.

Pink didn't disappoint, she was her usually sassy and ballsy self, the voice seems to have improved over time, not that it was bad before, and we were both blown away at how good her vocals were. A few funny parts where she showed everyone her boobs and bra and where she had a spate of saying "Fuck", cause she knew she wasn’t really supposed to be saying the 'F' word on live tv.

The set list consisted of 'Are We All We Are', which was amazing, 'Truth About Love', which Pink explained was how she felt about hubby Carey, 'Blow Me One Last Kiss', which sticks in your head, my favourite off the album was 'Try' and I can't stop singing it. Plus classics such as 'Just Like A Pill', 'You and Your Hand', and the anthem 'Mr President'.

Typically Pink was just accompanied by an acoustic guitar and two backing singers through a small segment of songs, it was a pure gem, loved it totally, this included the beautiful 'Family Portrait', the ballsy 'So What', 'Funhouse', 'Sober' and 'Fuckin' Perfect'.

The whole night was like I was in a dream, I kept expecting to be pinched and wake up from a dream, but no, the evening was real, and I had just seen a storming set by Pink in a 3,000 capacity venue.br />
There wolf whistles from both men and women throughout the night, if you go to a gig you can see the appeal, she is astounding and so good live, I never tire from seeing her live and am so looking forward to seeing her again on (new album) 'The Truth About Love Tour'.

The only slight downer on the night was two complete Neanderthals that decided to stand by us and talk throughout the whole set, this miffed us off intently. Just don't understand in going to a gig if you're gonna talk through the whole thing. I was so miffed that I purposely sang out of tune very loudly to a few songs, wolf whistled, shouted and screamed for about five songs, guess what it did the trick, Neanderthals moved.

Hopefully venues and dates will be announced this week, for the forthcoming tour, you'd be mad to miss it if it's as good as tonight and the last tour I had the chance to go to. Pink is indeed a gem of an artist and should be on your list of top ten artists to see.

Thanks Pink for an amazing night we’ll never forget.
