Stand Out Comedy Tour - I Am Amity / Zoe Lyons / Suzi Ruffell / Jen Brister

The Glee Club, Birmingham on Wed 23rd Nov 2011

The Stand-Out Comedy Tour rolled in to Birmingham on Wednesday night.

I was looking forward to it after having a few bad weeks workwise, and I was in dire need of a laugh. The visit to tonight's show was all about the musical entertainment, fellow Black County girl I Am Amity(Amy Forrester) was the icing on the cake.

Suzi Ruffell
The comedic entertainment was provided by trio Jen Brister, Suzi Ruffell and the fantastically funny Zoe Lyons.

Each comedian had a 15/20 minute stint where they provided the best bits of sets which they had previously exhibited at the Edinburgh Fringe earlier in the year. Although both equally as funny as each other Jen Brister and Suzi Ruffell got the audience warmed up for the hugely talented Zoe Lyons. Tales about pronunciations, not knowing weights for cooked meats and dancing whilst being drunk, whipped the crowd up into a frenzy.

Zoe Lyons

Mostly a female audience, the token guy on the front row came in for some ribbing and ended up warming the audience up before each act. There were also a few drunk people in the audience who had had too much gin and Gluwein from the German market, they were a little worse for wear and apparently chatting about sleep! During one of the sets, very naughty.

Zoe Lyons was hilarious, tales of CCTV in supermarkets and what she would look like at 85 with her tattoo, my sides were aching. She is so talented and can make a laugh out of virtually nothing.

I Am Amity

Musical entertainment tonight was provided by local girl I Am Amity. Showcasing her 6 track EP 'I Spy With My Little Eye Something Beginning With', we were treated to a 30 min set which was a pure delight.

A one women band playing everything from guitar, drums, kazoo, stylophone and singing, all combined on a Loop system., this girl is very, very talented. Tracks 'Bedpost', 'Oh My Word', 'Womaniser', 'For You' and 'I Spy' were amazing, all self- penned by Amy about her exploits and her love life.

The show was well worth the ticket price and it did make me a little happier, I will endeavour to see Zoe Lyons and I am Amity again, both very talented ladies.
