Instruments crammed under the pulpit The Heartbreaks launched into an energetic performance of jangly melodies seamlessly. The lads played their debut single 'Liar, My Dear' (March 2010) and their new single 'I Didn't Think It Would Hurt To Think Of You', as the crowd danced in the isles.
The Heartbreaks have a certain Indie charm, a mixture of pop, rockabilly and a hint of romanticism. Their energetic stage routine coupled with their quirky Northernesque lyrics have led to comparisons to The Smiths.
I first came across The Heartbreaks in the dark shadows of the Deaf Institute's Music Hall. This was one of many performances for Matthew, Ryan, Deaks and Joseph, who formed The Heartbreaks in Morecombe in 2009 and relocated to Manchester, they have recently returned home from supporting Carl Barât on his solo tour.
Described by Barât as "The finest support band I think I've ever had, in spirit, haircuts and northernness."
I wouldn't be surprised if we hear more of The Heartbreaks in 2011, and cant wait until their next instalment.
