The band are reforming ahead of the release of Shaun's greatest hits album coming out this summer, and Ryder will be hosting the comeback gig at Get Loaded on Easter Thursday.
The band, whose album 'It's Great When You're Straight... Yeah' was one of the hits of the '90s, will perform for the first time since 1997 on Thursday 1st April at The Coronet Theatre in London. There are many more acts still to be announced across the venues' four rooms.
Black Grape's debut album charted at number one in 1995. The critical and commercial success of the album represented one of the most triumphant comebacks in rock & roll history and featured three top twenty singles including 'Reverend Black Grape', 'In the Name of the Father' and 'Kelly's Heroes', as well as the iconic pop art image of Carlos The Jackal on the album's cover. Two further top ten singles followed in 1996 with 'Fat Neck' and football anthem 'England's Irie' (recorded with The Clash's Joe Strummer no less), resulting in the band being asked to take the headline slot of that year's Reading Festival alongside The Stone Roses and Rage Against The Machine.
The reunion of Black Grape comes seven years after Get Loaded successfully reunited Ryder's other band Happy Mondays. Shaun Ryder said, "It's great, it's interesting, it's part two. I've had a break and now I'm back to do it. Danny Saber and I have a great working relationship and the time is right."
