Steel Panther

There has long been a rumour in Nottingham that the girls outnumber the boys 2 to 1, but tonight it's definitely the boys that have been raiding the make-up counters and hairspray aisles in force. Not since the Eighties has so much back combing descended on one venue, so there was only one band that could be playing tonight, the feline-tastic Steel Panther.

Tonight many of the sell our crowd had revealed their guilty pleasure and forced themselves back into their spandex which had long been relegated to the back of the wardrobe, but damn did they look good. As you walked into Rock City tonight you got the buzz and feeling it had back in its glory days when Friday was rock night and permed hair was a must. I felt like I was home.



One man who maybe shared that feeling with me was no other than Mr. Download Festival God himself Andy Copping, he walked on stage to a huge cheer to introduce the boys and immediately the crowd upped their game and Rock City came alive.

A few people mistake this band for one big joke, but from the opening bars of 'Eyes of a Panther' it is very clear that these 4 guys are very talented musicians and many of today's 'Rock Stars' with egos up their own arses could do to watch their show. In a world that has gone Political Correct mad, it's refreshing to find a band who do what they do without giving a s**t and prove we can still have fun without coming to any harm.

Frontman Michael Starr (Ralph Saenz) proves his rock pedigree with note perfect screaming vocals and high energy and as you listen to the guitar riffs and overall sound of Steel Panther you could easily be at a Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Poison or Guns n Roses gig their sound is so faultless and deserves more credit for shaping the rock scene, after all this is the band that is getting the Guinness Book of Records to recognise them as the longest running show on Sunset Strip.

Between the songs the banter between Starr, guitarist Satchel (Russ Parrish), bassist Lexxi (Travis Haley) and Stix Zadinia (Darren Leader) on drums is relentless, the crowd have nowhere to hide and it isn't long before some of them find themselves the topic of conversation.



The band sail through most of the material on their current album 'Feel the Steel' with perfection. 'Community Property' and 'Party All Day' both have the crowd in a sing along frenzy and towards the end of the show the band have some fun trying to prove that everyone from Def Leppard, Led Zeppelin and Weezer have ripped off Whitesnake's 'Here I Go Again' this once again highlights their music ability.

These boys may be on the prowl so watch out UK as once they pounce there is no going back and it's clear this band has found it's territory and quite clearly marked it out with a trail of Spandex, before vanishing off in a cloud of Hairspray.
