The newspaper reports (here) that singer Ian Brown has given the green light for the reformation despite his tense relationship with guitarist Jon Squire. The band will reportedly play a twenty-one date tour of the UK in May to mark the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.
Despite the annual rumours that the group will reunite, the band have never got back on stage together since splitting officially in 1996.
"It's taken a lot of time and effort to get Ian [Brown] to agree, but he's really up for it." An insider tells The Daily Record. "He was the sticking point throughout the proceedings, but he's finally relented and signed on the dotted line."
"There's been a lot of speculation in the past, but this is the real deal. The rest of the band were really up for it, especially when they realised the amount of money on the table."
"Ian has forged a really successful solo career and wasn't very receptive to their plans. It's taken a while, but he's finally come around to the notion."
Bassist Mani had previously hinted of a reunion. Speaking in December, he said, "Me, John and Reni are up for doing it and Ian just needs working on. Next year is the 20th anniversary of the first album. It's the ideal time to do it. It's something I would love to do before we are all fat and bald."
It's thought The band - famous for their war cry of "Mad For It" will play at least 21 UK dates, as well a US date, thought to be Coachella Festival, with possible world tour dates to follow.
