Ray Davies hints at The Kinks reunion

singer reveals the band are working on new material

news: Wednesday 5th November 2008

Sixties pop legends The Kinks' lead singer Ray Davies has revealed that the band who last performed live together in 1996 are working on a new album.

The Kinks spearheaded the musical explosion of the mid sixties alongside The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who. The four piece famous for hits like 'You Really Got Me', 'All Day And All Of The Night', 'Waterloo Sunset' and 'Dedicated Follower Of Fashion' split after the two Davies' brothers relationship fell apart.

Davies said in an interview with BBC News, (here), that the band, one of the few sixties bands whose founder members are all still alive, are currently writing new material.

"We've started a little bit of this and that. But it is too early to judge the quality." he told the BBC, "It depends if there's good music. We want good new music. I'd like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do."

The singer/songwriter also revealed he's currently working on an album with a choir and a further album of collaborations. Some of those he is hoping to woirk with include Razorlight's Johnny Borrell, Snow Patrol, Chuck Berry, and some previously unknown talents. Davies added, "We'll see how it works out - a mixture of Snow Patrol and Chuck Berry. It should be an interesting record."

With all that on his plate, and a solo tour, fitting in the time to work with his original band members is going to keep the 64 year old pretty busy.
