A few months have passed since then, however whilst strolling up to the doors at Nottingham's Rock City, it was clear that their popularity was still at its peak, one look at the gigantic mile long queue which had started to block of important roads was a sure fire confirmation that this band were doing something right.
David Draiman and co, otherwise known as Disturbed, clearly came to Rock City to demonstrate why they are so popular. Way before they had even stepped onto the stage the crowd had whipped themselves into a crazed frenzy, with beer flying everywhere and arms aloft even before a single note had been struck.
Things that went slightly mental (literally) as vocalist Draiman arrived on stage wearing a Hannibal Lecter type mask along with a straight-jacket and prison-style boiler suit. This was stage theatrics used effectively, as it built the fans anticipation up even further. If this wasn't enough to keep your attention, even their backdrop was amusing to see, it had their mascot 'The Guy', surrounded by an overpowering flame. So top marks to Disturbed for visual aids.
Disturbed wasted no time in getting the audience acquainted with their new material from their album 'Indestructible', as they ploughed through the opening track 'Perfect Insanity' taken from the album.
This was one of those rare gigs were the band could do nothing wrong, hell, they could have just stood on stage and read names from a telephone directory and would still have been greeted with a warm reception from the audience.
The set consisted of a finely balanced mix of songs spanning most of their albums - 'Indestructible', 'The Sickness', 'Believe', and 'Ten Thousand Fists'. Which ensured that no matter which album you liked the most, you was guaranteed to hear a couple of tracks to keep you satisfied until the next tour. The Four-piece band even managed to squeeze in a superb version of 'Land Of Confusion' by Genesis.
Vocalist Draiman is able to switch in the blink of an eye from angelic harmonies straight into raw shouting whilst never losing the melody of the song. He stalks across the stage confidently knowing that for tonight at least, he has done his job perfectly in proving that Disturbed's sound is certainly unique. (In a good way).
Like all good things it has to end somewhere, and as expected the band brought the show to a close with 'Down With The Sickness'.
Disturbed were an absolute pleasure to see live, and I will be counting down the days until they are next playing nearby.
