The Kinks to reform?

news: Thursday 3rd January 2008

One of the legendary bands - The Kinks - that spearheaded the musical explosion of the mid sixties alongside The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who could reform. The four piece famous for hits like 'You Really Got Me', 'All Day And All Of The Night', 'Waterloo Sunset' and 'Dedicated Follower Of Fashion' split in 1996 after the two Davies' brothers relationship fell apart.

Ray Davies Ray Davies has dropped hints in a recent interview in The Daily Mail (here) that the band have been discussing coming together again to make a new album. Fuelling rumours that a tour by The Kinks could be in the pipeline for 2008. Ray told the newspaper that he had discussed reforming the band with bass player Peter Quaife, saying, "I spoke to Quaife about a month ago and he clearly wants to make another record with me."

However the lead singer clearly hasn't closed the rift with his brother, he gave no hint he was on speaking terms adding, "I think Dave's getting better and Mick's still playing. It would be great to get back together just to see the musical ideas we had and what would happen."

Ray has been a solo artist since the split, talked recently he missed being part of a band. He explained, "You miss the interactive stuff. You get it to a degree with other musicians but probably not with the same passion."

Ray's brother Dave suffered a stroke in 2004 and Peter has had health problems too which ended talk of a reunion a few year's ago. With their health improving we could possibly see another legendary band making a comeback this year, a year in which their CD box set spanning the group's entire career is released.
