Oasis to release new 'greatest hits' album

but do they want to?

news: Wednesday 26th July 2006

Despite claiming for years that they wouldn't do it until they finally packed it all in, Oasis are now set to release a greatest hits album.

So is this the end of Oasis? Um, no it isn't. Last year Noel Gallagher expressed his concerns that the bands current record label Song BMG would do the 'dirty on the band' by releasing a greatest hits album in an attempt to cash in on the band before the contract expires this year, a contract that Oasis have no desire to renew.

Noel commented back then "I've always said we'd never do one (greatest hits album) until we'd split. I think they're (Sony) going to force our hand. I really wouldn't want to do one, but if they put one out we'll have to get involved otherwise it'll be sh*t."

And that's exactly what has happened. On November 20th 2006 Oasis will release an 18 track double album entitled 'Stop the Clocks'. The songs in this collection have been chosen by the band themselves, and they believe the songs encapsulate the high points of their career.

New track Stop the Clocks is expected to feature, along with hits Supersonic, Wonderwall, The Importance of Being Idle, and b-sides Acquiesce and Half the World Away.

A statement from Oasis' PR was "As such, this is not a full stop, but merely a time out; a dream set list, and a chance for the world to review the immense contribution that Oasis have made and continue to make to rock ‘n’ roll."
