However, one definite element of Thursday is that you should never doubt their ability as a live band, because they are quite simply breath taking. The minute Jeff stood centre stage and rose his microphone in the air as a sign of welcome, the crowd went absolutely mental with energy and excitement at the anticipation of the opening song, which was Understanding in a car crash, one of their best known songs which Jeff sang with his whole being, thrashing his body around on the stage, jumping from the drum kit and speakers and leaning so far into the audience that it felt like he would never get back onto the stage! Although I was doubtful of the new album, all worries fled as they broke into some of their older material, testing the dedication of their fan base with Paris In Flames and Cross out the eyes and for the slightly newer fans Division street, signals over the air and their new single Counting 5-4-3-2-1 which has to be said, is the best track from the latest album.
A mixture of old and new was met with a great reception. The fans clearly loved the show, Jeff does his voice total justice in singing live and is one of the few front men Ive seen who makes a valid effort to include the whole band in the show and not steal all the attention, whilst giving the crowd energy to keep moving. His interaction with the audience was sincere, encouraging all the kids to stay behind after the show for a meet and great and you can tell, that after eight years, Thursday still keep their fans close to their hearts.
The encore fed us the spectacular Jet Black New Year, easily their most admirable and heart felt song, which left the show on an all time high.
So whilst Thursday may not be churning out the originality that they possessed a few years ago, they do not fail to impress and are still one of the best live acts on the emo scene. After seeing them 5 times, I have definitely not got bored.
