The Prodigy

Arena, Nottingham on Wed 7th Dec 2005

After a storming set at V Festival this year, it was obvious that you would have to be a complete idiot not to snap up tickets to see The Prodigy on their current ‘Greatest Hits’ tour. A greatest hits album often means that it's the end of a band, but The Prodigy don’t look like they are anywhere close to ending.

‘New Intro’ was the opening song for the fans at the full to capacity Nottingham Ice Arena. This created a mass flicker of life amongst the fans - ‘Their Law’ shifted the gear up a notch - and instantly people were dancing like they were high on drugs (I spotted a few who genuinely were!). [only a few??? Must have been a quiet night - ed.]

The bass was so powerful that it pulverised the chest cavity inwards by a couple of inches towards the spinal column. This was a thud that you really could feel! Maxim and Keith kept the energetic vocals belting out throughout every song, and Liam just stayed in the shadows behind his mixing desk.

Keith commands the stage with so much energy that you begin to wonder exactly how he manages to do such an energetic performance every time The Prodigy play live.

The set was well-balanced, if anything it was a pleasant surprise that they had managed to squeeze into their set the old favourites like ‘Jericho’ right through to their most up to date stuff such as ‘Spitfire’. Naturally all of the hits were included ‘Breathe’, Firestarter’, ‘Poison’, ‘Smack My Bitch Up’, to name just a small few.

In short The Prodigy are incredible live! Without a doubt I will be the first in the queue to buy tickets next time they tour!!!
